Dream on little broomstick cowboy, of rocket ships and Mars
Of sunny days and Willie Mays, and chocolate candy bars...
Dream on little broomstick cowboy, dream while you can
Of big green frogs and puppy dogs, and castles in the sand…
For all to soon you’ll awaken and your toys will all be gone
Your broomstick horse will ride away, and find another home...
And you’ll have grown into a man, with cowboys of your own
And then you’ll have to go to war, to try and save our home…
Taken from the song “Broomstick Cowboy” by Bobby Goldsboro
Most gods throw dice, but Destiny plays chess, and you don't find out until too late that he's been playing with two queens all along...
There is an enduring tenderness in the love of a mother to her son that transcends all other affections of the heart...
Matt and his mom, Lynn, on Basic Training graduation day...
A boy is Truth with dirt on it's face,
Beauty with a cut on it's finger,
Wisdom with bubble gum in it's hair,
and the Hope of the future with a frog in it's pocket...
Matt, age 4...
"Clean shirt, new shoes,
I know exactly where I am going to.
Black suit, silk tie,
I don't need a reason why.
They come running just as fast as they can,
Becuase every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man..."

Courage and Valor are like brown eyes... If you have them, you were born with them and have had them all your life... but unlike eye color, only extreme circumstances that one could neither predict, nor prepare for, causes them to be noticed...
“Not only the studying and writing of history but also the HONORING of it both represent affirmations of a certain defiant faith - a desperate, unreasoning faith, if you will-but faith nevertheless in the endurance of this threatened world-faith in the total essentiality of historical continuity...”

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon

When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then...

"They come from small towns you never heard of: Pulaski, Tennessee; Brandon, Mississippi; Pork Van, Utah; Wampum, Pennsylvania and they're the ones fighting for our society and our freedom. It's weird, isn't it? Maybe that's why they call themselves grunts, cause a grunt can take it, can take anything. They're the best I've ever seen, Grandma. The heart and soul of America..."

Matt at age 15...
Through space and time, always another show,
Wondering where I am, lost without you
And being a part's not easy on this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy of rediscovering you
My girl... you stand by me, I'm forever yours...
FAITHFULLY

About the Patch -
Symbolism: Yellow, the traditional cavalry color, and the horse's head refer to the division's original cavalry structure. Black, symbolic of iron, alludes to the transition to tanks and armor. The black diagonal stripe represents a sword baldric and is a mark of military honor; it also implies movement "up the field" and thus symbolizes aggressive elan and attack. The one diagonal bend, as well as the one horse's head, also alludes to the division's numerical designation.
Background: The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved 3 January 1921 with several variations in colors of the bend and horse's head to reflect the subordinate elements of the division. The current design was authorized for wear by all subordinate elements of the division on 11 December 1934 and previous authorization for the variations was canceled.
